Domain Name Registration

Domain Name Registration
Web-Solve will advise on, search for availability and arrange domain name registration.  Domain names are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and if 'your name' is taken it is almost impossible to get it back. Domain names are being registered at a very high rate and it is advisable to secure registration as soon as possible. You can hold your domain name until you want to use it on your website.

Domain Name Checker
You can check the availibility of domain names by using the domain name checkers on the following site. (To return to this page from these sites close the browser window).

For UK domain names ending in .uk go to
www.nominet.org.uk

For domain names ending in .com .net .org .edu go to
www.internic.net

The above sites allows you to type in a potential domain name and search to see if that name is still available. The search looks for various different types of domain name that are available to you.

Below are guidelines on choosing a domain name
The domain name you choose will be the name that people use to access your website. So, you will want to choose a name which is both memorable in its own right and usually fairly similar to your company's name. A domain can be thought of as having two parts:

www.firstpart.secondpart

The first part is almost completely your choice. It can be a mixture of letters and numbers. Hyphens may also be used but cannot begin or end the domain name. No other symbols can be used. The minimum number of characters a domain name can have is three.

The second part follows in the domain name after a separating 'dot' and is chosen from a restricted set, intended to reflect the type of website (commercial, academic, etc.) and the country the organisation behind it is based in.
